FLOORVIBE from Structural Engineers Inc., of Virginia

FLOORVIBE is a Windows-based expert system knowledge base developed by Tom Murray, who ENR recognizes as the leading expert on floor vibrations (May 19, 1997).

FLOORVIBE is like having a floor vibration expert at your desk.

FLOORVIBE uses the criteria in the AISC / CISC Design Guide #11 Floor Vibrations due to Human Activity. Floors can be evaluated for

bulletWalking in offices, residences, churches, and shopping malls.
bulletActivities like lively dancing and aerobics together with adjacent occupancies like offices, residences and dining.
bulletThe effects of floor motion on sensitive equipment, for instance, microscopes, and operating room instruments.
bulletFootbridges New!

FLOORVIBE not only does the calculations, but also provides on line expert advice

bullet

What live loads to use,

bullet

How to estimate damping,

bullet

What are the suggested acceleration limits for activities and occupancies.

FLOORVIBE has databases for

bulletHot-rolled sections
bulletK-series joists
bulletCastellated (Smart) Beams New!
bulletAustralian Sections New!

And calculation procedures for

bulletLH- and DLH-series joists
bulletComposite Joists New!
bulletJoist-Girders
bulletBuilt-up Sections

FLOORVIBE supports US Customary and SI Units New!

Get it right the first time with FLOORVIBE!

FLOORVIBE produces a complete design report. All calculations are available for ease in checking.

FLOORVIBE automatically generates NOTES and WARNINGS. NOTES provide explanations for a result if it may not be obvious to the user, or suggest modifications that the user may consider. WARNINGS are used to alert the user to conditions that may require further consideration.

FLOORVIBE has a DEFAULTS TABLE option. This option allows the user to set common variables for a specific job. A DEFAULTS TABLE can be given a name by the user and then is stored with each completed analysis.

What will FLOORVIBE do for you?

FLOORVIBE will reduce the learning time for the methods in the AISC/CISC Design Guide 11 Floor Vibrations due to Human Activitiy. The guide says, "… the proposed criterion for walking excitation is somewhat more complex than previous criteria…." Why not let FLOORVIBE help you learn the new methods?

FLOORVIBE will help you develop more economical, but acceptable floors.

FLOORVIBE will do more than other vibration analysis software. FLOORVIBE has databases for hot-rolled sections and joists.

FLOORVIBE helps you analyze floors using the latest research results. No other software has this capability.
